In spring of 2017, shortly after the installation celebration of the chapter, the House Corporation began on a path to renovate and restore 202 E. Daniel St. to once again be a premier example of a Fraternity home for current and future members of the Sigma Rho Chapter. In addition, the House Corporation wanted a place for all Sigma Rho alumni to be able to visit and reminisce about their time spent in the chapter house.
The House Corporation enlisted the services of a property management company to oversee the project and an Indianapolis based architectural firm for the design work. The goal of the project was to fully refresh the interior of the house, including completely renovating and expanding the bathrooms that more closely align with current student demands. The exterior envelope of the house was to be shored up, including new doors, windows, roof and a significant amount of masonry restoration. This work was scheduled to begin in the late fall of 2017.
However, due to issues stemming from the undergraduate chapter’s operations and concerns regarding their pledging practices, the plans for the house were put on hold. Once the chapter’s future became clearer and that they would not be residing in 202 E. Daniel for a period of time, the House Corporation began seeking alternative tenants to lease the property to until Sigma Rho once again was able to occupy the house. The House Corporation has had conversations with numerous student groups regarding leasing the property but, to date, no plans have been solidified. Conversations regarding the future of the house, the renovation project are ongoing.
